Communication Skills – How do we communicate biblically when the message will be confrontational?
Galatians 6:1 instructs …you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path… Is your desired outcome to correct the problem and get back on the right path?
In 2 Samuel 12 Nathan had the tough duty of confronting King David on his wrong doing, his adultery covered up with murder! Nathan went to see David fully prepared including having heard from God. He shared a story that appealed to David’s sense of right and wrong. When Nathan drew out the story’s parallel to David’s own actions, David understood and repented. Nathan did more than tell David something tough to hear, he communicated. His message was transmitted using a story, it was received, and it was understood. .
When you must transmit a message that will be considered by the recipient as confrontational, how do you measure the understanding of your message? Can you use a story to help the person evaluate the core issue fairly without their internal defenses clouding their thinking? .
