A weekly blog to enlighten and encourage Christian business leaders to lead their business using biblical principles.
Business Principles of Nehemiah 3 – Last week we looked at the first steps of a project – Prayer, Planning, Patience. Nehemiah had surveyed the scope of the project and then communicated the plan. In response the people indicated they were committed, ready to get to work.
In business you want commitment from your employees, suppliers, and customers. People will commit to a higher call, even non-christians. (Marines are an example.) Have you identified what in your organization is worthy of other’s commitment? As you invest time communing with the Lord this week, ask Him to help you see both the tangible and intangible things and begin to list them.
In Nehemiah 3 the people didn’t just say they were committed, they went to work. (Actions speak louder than words!) Based on the detail in Nehemiah 3, Nehemiah knew well who was doing what in the project. He practiced the principle – Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds, for riches don’t last forever, and the crown might not be secure for the next generation. Proverbs 27:23-24 NLT
How well do you know the state of your business? Is you heart into caring for your employees, suppliers, and customers?
Bit of Wisdom
Care for the flock of God entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly — not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example. And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor. 1 Peter 5:2-4
