Leadership Lesson

Business Principles of Nehemiah 8 (Word Power) – Last week we looked at how Nehemiah delegated, established operational procedures, and changed his leadership style after the initial project was completed. We also looked at how to determine if our ideas are from God. Are you testing your ideas to assure they are from God?

In Chapter 8 Nehemiah is the governor and Ezra a priest and scribe. They have separate functions, kind of like state and church, but were together in bringing God’s Word to the people.

They read from the Book of the Law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understand each passage. Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, “Don’t weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the LORD your God.” All the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the law. Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:8-10 NLT

The truth of God’s Word impacted the people, as it always does. Is your faith an integral part of your business? Or are they separate? Are you experiencing the power of God’s Word in your business? Is the joy of the Lord giving you and your people strength? You probably can’t build a platform and have a clergy read from the Bible for half a day as Nehemiah did, but if you have a company newsletter perhaps you can add an appropriate verse from Proverbs. For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. Hebrews 4:12 NLT

We grasp the Word through HEARING, READING, STUDYING and MEMORIZING. As we do each of these methods we can’t help but MEDITATE, which is simply rethinking what we heard, read, studied, or memorized. As we consciously meditate the Holy Spirit deepens our understanding. How is your intake of the Word? Is this investment of time in the Bible yielding dividends in your business? Ask our Lord to show you how to be more effective in bringing His Word into your business.

Bit of Wisdom

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 ESV
