Business Principles of Nehemiah 9 (Admitting Mistakes) – Last week we looked at how Nehemiah integrated God’s Word into his work. Are you increasing in your effectiveness at bringing God’s Word into your business both formally and informally?

In Nehemiah 9 the people gathered for another observance. This time they listened as the Word was read for 3 hours, then for 3 more hours they confessed their sins, worshiped, and praised God for what He had done in their history. Do you look for the activity of God and then draw attention to what He has and is doing in your company? As you look at your company’s history, do you see the hand of God? How can you share this in practical, non-churchy ways?

“But when all was going well, your people turned to sin again, and once more you let their enemies conquer them. Yet whenever your people cried to you again for help, you listened once more from heaven. In your wonderful mercy, you rescued them repeatedly!” Nehemiah 9:28 NLT Why do we humans turn away from God when things go well and turn toward God when we’re in a jam?

You warned them to return to your law, but they became proud and obstinate and disobeyed your commands. They did not follow your regulations, by which people will find life if only they obey. They stubbornly turned their backs on you and refused to listen. Nehemiah 9:29 NLT How do you respond when you make a mistake?

Are you immersing yourself in the Manufacturer’s Operational Handbook, the Bible, so you have an operating standard you know is true and right? When it is brought to your attention that you are in error (knowingly or unknowingly), do you confess (admit) it to God and the people involved? Integrity is having our walk match our talk, and when it doesn’t, admitting it.

Confessing our wrong doings seems like weakness, but in reality it shows those affected strength, and it demonstrates the living God is working in our lives.

Pray as David did – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Bit of Wisdom
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT
