A weekly blog to enlighten and encourage Christian business leaders to lead their business using biblical principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at Human Resource Hiring Decisions. Are your hiring processes and procedures bringing the best people into your enterprise? Are your people seeing Biblical business principles at work?
This week we will review Human Resources – Promotions from the Business By the Book Workshop.
Pray Jesus prayed all night before He promoted 12 of His disciples. In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles. Luke 12-13 ESV
If Jesus needed to pray, how much more do we?
Faithful Now Is the person being considered for promotion faithful in little things? Faithful in the present job? The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ Matthew 25:21 NLT
How do you evaluate employee faithfulness?
Promoting to Manager Now a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 NLT Managers influence more than daily productivity. They influence the company culture, which affects employee motivation, which affects employee long term performance. When you do promote an employee to a first time supervisory position, what training do you provide to prevent the Peter Principle?
Blest People Look for people upon whom the blessing of God rests. From the day Joseph was put in charge, the LORD began to bless Potiphar for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs began to run smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished.
Genesis 39:5 NLT
Joseph continued to be a faithful man who trusted and walked with God in bad times (sold into slavery by his brothers, and a false rape charge). But the LORD was with Joseph there, too, and he granted Joseph favor with the chief jailer. Before long, the jailer put Joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. The chief jailer had no more worries after that, because Joseph took care of everything. The LORD was with him, making everything run smoothly and successfully. Genesis 39:21-23 NLT And Joseph walked with God in good times (promoted to Prime Minister). Joseph’s suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his advisers. As they discussed who should be appointed for the job, Pharaoh said, “Who could do it better than Joseph? For he is a man who is obviously filled with the spirit of God.” Genesis 41:37-38 NLT God blesses people full of faith – faithfulness.
What changes will God have you make to your promotion processes and procedures?
Bit of Wisdom
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:1,6 ESV
