Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at Marketing from the Business By the Book Workshop.
Have you discovered that your faith in the living God increases and you sense more of a closeness to Christ as you make honest decisions, including those involving the marketing of your products/services?

This week we will review Planning from the Business By the Book Workshop.

Planning
When a group of managers was asked, “Why plan?” One man responded, “If you don’t have a plan, you can’t change it!” After everyone laughed, he responded that he meant it as a serious comment. He had the responsibility for dispatching 25 service technicians to keep customers’ systems running. He explained he had learned to establish the next day’s plan at the end of the day even though 75% of it would change the next morning when the phone began to ring. He said having a plan helped him keep order during the chaotic morning. By having a plan, we have a determined direction and can sense deviations; and when we make intentional changes have we have a reference point by which to measure.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. Proverbs 21:5 ESV
God encourages us to plan multiple times in Scripture

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9 ESV
While we are to plan, we must remember God is sovereign.

The Workshop gives six basic steps for planning:
1. Identify your core values.
2. Create a clear mission statement.
3. Establish measurable objectives.
4. Formulate a plan for achieving the objectives.
5. Develop a plan for accountability.
6. Measure the results.

How do you resolve the tension between your responsibility to plan and God’s sovereignty?

What part does prayer play in your planning? What percentage of your planning time do you invest in pray?

What area of your enterprise most needs your planning?

Bit of Wisdom
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
