A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead their business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at the tension between your responsibility to plan and God’s sovereignty. How is your faith working at work?.
This week we will look at temptation. As our world becomes increasingly secular, temptation to follow the way of the world in business increases. What temptations are you encountering in your work to go the world’s way instead of God’s way?
The Apostle John wrote – Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever. 1 John 2:15-17 NLT
When Jesus faced Satan’s tempting as described in Matthew 4, He responded to each of the three encounters by quoting God’s Word. (Note: Satan tempted Jesus with each of the three categories listed in 1 John 2, i.e. lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, as stated in the King James Bible.)
How are you doing in facing temptations in these three areas? How would your people say you’re doing?
The passage states when we love the world we show others we don’t have the love of God in us. Are you showing the love of God to those who don’t yet know Christ through your handling of temptations?
1 Corinthians gives us good news – But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
Bit of Wisdom
Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything. If you need wisdom — if you want to know what God wants you to do — ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:2-6 NLT
