Forums Focus A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at Team. Do you have a common cause that empowers your team to be more effective?

This week we will begin to examine teachings from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, specifically the Beatitudes, and how they apply to business. Matthew 5:2-12 is called the Beatitudes. The term Beatitude comes from the Latin adjective beatus which means happy, fortunate, or blissful. Don’t we all desire to be happy, fortunate and blissful? Each Beatitude consists of a condition and a result, and focuses on love and humility instead of force. The Beatitudes will affect our attitudes.

A relaxed attitude lengthens life; jealousy rots it away. Proverbs 14:30 NLT How is your attitude these days? How is the attitude of others around you in your workplace?

Two components of effectiveness are skill and attitude. We can help people gain skills that are lacking. However, we can’t improve people’s attitude, people are responsible for their own attitudes, but we can assure the workplace environment is positive so their attitude can grow.

Our attitudes are shaped by our core values. Our behaviors are shaped by our attitudes. Values > Attitudes > Behaviors. The Beatitudes are values that will shape our attitudes which shape our behavior.

How is the environment at your company? Does it help your people’s attitudes grow? As a leader, what can you do to improve it?

Next week we will examine the first Beatitude and how it relates to business – Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 ESV

Bit of Wisdom
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God. And other people will approve of you, too. Romans 14:17-18 NLT
