Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at attitudes. How are yours and other’s attitudes in your business?
This week we will examine the first Beatitude and how it relates to business – Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3 ESV What does it mean to be poor in spirit, including at work?
The Message interrupts the passage – You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. Have you learned that less of you results in more of God? And, that when you’re humble your more open to doing business God’s way – by His Book?
The New Living Translation for Matthew 5:3 – God blesses those who realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them. In times of crises we all express our need for God. Do you express your need for God when all is going well?
We all desire to be blessed by God. While humility an attitude God blesses when we’re humble before Him, humility is also an attitude that other people respond to positively. On a scale of 1 – 10 how humble are you? Ask God for His evaluation. What would your customers, employees, suppliers, and others say?
O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 131 Is your hope for your business in the Lord?
Bit of Wisdom
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:24-26 NLT
