Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at the second Beatitude and how it relates to business with respect to loss. Are you experiencing God’s comfort in your business losses?

This week we will examine the third Beatitude from a business perspective. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5 ESV

What comes to mind as you read meek? Mr. Milk toast? The Bible says Moses was a meek man, yet he led a nation through very adverse circumstances. Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth. Numbers 12:3 ESV Meekness is not weakness!

The NLT uses gentle and lowly for meek – God blesses those who are gentle and lowly, for the whole earth will belong to them.

One commentator describes meek as being able to control reactions when being hurt, and without retaliating. Meekness comes from being content with who you are and having a clear purpose and vision beyond the current circumstances. Meekness is being open and other centered, not closed and me centered. Jesus modeled this many times.

Contrary to the stereotype often portrayed, most top CEO’s I have been privileged to know have been gentle. Their power is derived from respect, not fear. Meekness is a key element of servant-leadership.

The promise in this Beatitude is that we will inherit the earth. It is a blessing to have more than we need. Since God owns it all, when He lets us use a portion of His earth, we are truly blest.

On a scale of 1 – 10, how meek are you? Do your employees, customers, and suppliers see you as someone who cares about others more than self? Do they see Jesus in you? Are you experiencing Matthew 5:5 as paraphrased in the Message? You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are – no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

Bit of Wisdom
You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 Peter 3:4 NLT
