Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at the third Beatitude and how it relates to business with respect to meekness. Are you experiencing God’s promise of inheriting the earth in your business?
This week we will examine the fourth Beatitude from a business perspective. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6 ESV

Who determines what is right? God or society? Society’s standards keep changing, but God’s standards don’t. I remember a professor at a state university in the early 60’s stating in a Business Law course that the US Uniform Commercial Code was based on the Common Law of England, and the Common Law was based on the Bible. Would you hear that today? Legal rulings today are most often based on case law which keeps changing, instead of the Constitution.

How are you doing in hungering and thirsting for righteousness in your business? A recent ad for a mattress retailer shows a dad with a teenage son going into a movie where the sign shows a discount for younger children. The dad tells the son, who is obviously older, to say he’s 8! The son just looks at him. The commercial voiceover then says, “Love a discount?” Is this commercial cute and harmless or a symptom of our times and part of the slippery slope?

Sometimes it might not seem like it, but God is still the Sovereign Creator Owner who rules with righteousness and justice. The promise is that when we hunger and thirst for righteousness we will be satisfied, or as in the King James – filled. God will reward those who do the right thing, with right being defined by the Bible.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV God’s Word will teach us what is right (teaching), show us where we’re wrong (reproof), show us how to correct our wrongs (correction), and train us how to stay on the right track (training in righteousness). The promise of this passage? We will be equipped and competent to do the right thing.

Are you investing time daily in Scripture asking the Holy Spirit to help you discern and apply Biblical Principles to your business? If you have never developed the habit, I challenge you to reading 14 days without a miss, marking your calendar each day. If you miss a day, you have to restart the 14 day challenge. Most will take 6 weeks to not have a miss, and by then the habit is formed.

Is your business known in the community as one that does the right thing?

Bit of Wisdom
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 NLT
