Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we looked at the seventh Beatitude and our role as a peacemaker. Is God using you in your day-to-day business life to defuse chaotic situations, help warring parties make peace, and bring the Gospel of peace where peace is lacking?

This week we will examine the eighth Beatitude from a business perspective. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10 ESV Have you ever been persecuted for doing the right thing? Are you facing making a right decision at work even though the opinion of others is in disagreement? Have you assured your decision is right by examining and following Biblical Principles of Business?

The fourth Beatitude said we are blessed when we hunger and thirst for righteousness, this one goes on to say we are blessed when we do the right thing and are persecuted for it. When this happens, how does it impact your character?

Peter advises Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 1 Peter 3:9 ESV Are you standing on the promises of God and trusting Him for the blessing or following the popular way of the world in your business decisions and actions?

Peter also wrote But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. 1 Peter 3:14-17 ESV When you are persecuted for doing the right thing, how do you react? With anger or with gentleness and respect? Can God use the persecution to show people around you Christ in you?

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it (heaven) we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20-21 ESV The promise of this Beatitude, heaven, awaits those persecuted for doing right things. We have a Savior and Lord who has set the pace and who provides our way to Heaven. Are you functioning in your workplace as though your citizenship is in Heaven or as though it is on Earth?

Bit of Wisdom
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-48 ESV
