Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on giving thanks. How thankful are you in your typical business day?
This week we will finish the series on the Sermon on the Mount as applied to business. Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world — like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:13-16 NLT How do you add salt and light in your day-to-day business life?
Salt – Salt adds flavor. Too much ruins the soup, and not enough leaves it flat; just like our witness in the world of business. How do you measure and evaluate your flavor in business?
Light – Light displaces the darkness; just like our witness in a dark world. How do you measure and evaluate the consistency and brightness of your light in business? If too much light blinds people when they’re in the dark. And they trip over things if there is not enough light. How can you know the right amount?
Can you think of businesses that are too heavy on salt and light? Can you think of businesses that don’t have enough salt and light? Where are you on this continuum of not enough to too much? Are you involved with some other Christian business people, both inside and outside the organization, who can help you both evaluate and execute change as needed?
