Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on salt and light. How are you doing in being salt and light to people around you in your day-to-day business life?

This week we will focus on our network. People in our networks range from those we casually greet in passing (and we barely know them), to deep friendships, people who really know us (perhaps better than we know ourselves). We have many tools, like LinkedIn, Plaxo and Facebook, to help us stay connected with people. But are we making a difference in the lives of people in our network, and are they making a difference in ours?

As you reflect on your professional network, especially those classified as close working relationships, consider the following Biblical Business Principles:

Whoever walks with the wise will become wise; whoever walks with fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20 NLT Are people in you network wise? What is your standard by which you determine who is wise?

Wounds from a friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. Proverbs 27:6 NLT Have you experienced the truth of this verse? Are you sufficiently open to criticism so people, especially those under your leadership, will tell you the truth, not just what they perceive you want to hear?

As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17 NLT Do you and the people in your network sharpen each other?

There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 NLT Do you have some real friends in your business life who will be there through thick and thin, and will walk through difficult times with you? (Note: CBMC Forum Groups become “a band of brothers”.)

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given us to tell others. We are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, “Be reconciled to God!” 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 NLT As we walk through this Christmas Season, let’s be real friends to those in our networks and share the Reason for The Season. Do you have anything of more value to share with people in your network?

Bit of Wisdom
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the LORD wants; day and night they think about his law. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail. Their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper. But this is not true of the wicked. They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1 NLT
