Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Faith in Business. Does your strategy for business success include biblical faith?
This week we will focus on Marketing with Humility. How do you define humility? Do you think of humility as weakness and passivity? Or, do you think of humility as a character quality empowered by disciplined strength?
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Philippians 2:3-4 KJV
Strife can be defined as pushing others down. Vainglory as pumping yourself up. In your marketing do you attempt to make your competition look bad? Do you brag in your marketing? Or do you market your products / services with other centered humility?
Being other centered is the opposite of being self centered. In your marketing strategies do you put the needs of your customers first?
Key to being other centered is being Christ centered. Take an extra 5 minutes during your Quiet Time this week and read Philippians Chapter 2. Would Jesus have marketed a product or service with the same humility He demonstrated?
You younger men, accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for “God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. 1 Peter 5:5-7 NLT I once knew a businessman who would say, “I’m a humble man, and mighty proud of it!” Interestingly, he is not in business today. Is your marketing other centered? Does your marketing strategy reserve elevating and honoring as God’s role?
Bit of Wisdom
Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 NLT
