Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Marketing with Humility. Do your marketing efforts please God?
This week we will focus on Wise Counsel. Where do you get wise counsel?
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1 NKJ As you walk along your path in business, are you receiving counsel from ungodly people who dispense the world’s wisdom?
The downward spiral of Psalm 1:1 is that as we walk along listening to counsel that is not Biblical, we will eventually stop, stand around and listen to advice from sinners; and then after standing around awhile, we eventually pull up a chair and sit with people who are scornful about God’s ways.
While we are all sinners, we’re sinners who have received the Holy Spirit who enables us to understand Biblical Business Principles and empowers us to apply them. Psalm 1:1 warns us that walking in the counsel of the ungodly leads to moving further away from God’s ways by stopping and listening to sinners dispense the world’s ways. This can lead us even further away from God’s ways to where we sit around a conference table receiving advice from people who scorn God’s ways.
So what should we do? But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm1:2-3 NKJ From whom are you getting counsel? Are you investing sufficient time in the Bible so you can discern when received counsel is Godly? Is the promise of Psalm 1:1-2 worth committing to memory?
Next week we will delve more into the who, what, where, when, and why of Godly counsel from the Proverbs.
Bit of Wisdom
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. Colossians 2:8 NKJ
