Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on the Peter Principle. Are you caring for those entrusted to you by God as Peter described in 1 Peter 5?
This week we will focus on Planning from Proverbs 16.
We can gather our thoughts, but the LORD gives the right answer. Proverbs 16:1 NLT. As we plan with the Lord, it is comforting to know we can trust Him to lead us in the right direction. Do you trust Him with your business decisions – both big ones and small ones?
People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives. Proverbs 16:2 NLT Do your plans always seem right because you came up with them? (Mine do!) In planning, do you invest time in prayer asking God to search your heart and reveal to you any wrong motives? Do you keep motives above methods?
Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NLT Do you dedicate the outcome (and the process) of your plans to the Lord seeking glory only for Him? As you plan, do you consider how the results of the plan can bring glory to God?
The LORD has made everything for His own purposes, even the wicked for punishment. Proverbs 16:4 NLT In planning do you keep in mind that God is Creator and Controller?
The LORD despises pride; be assured that the proud will be punished. Proverbs 16:5 NLT What steps do you take to stay humble?
Unfailing love and faithfulness cover sin; evil is avoided by fear of the LORD. Proverbs 16:6 NLT How do you keep the fear the Lord in your business planning?
When the ways of people please the LORD, he makes even their enemies live at peace with them. Proverbs 16:7 NLT How do you assure your plans are pleasing to the Lord? Who are your enemies? (Competitors, angry customers, disgruntled employees, others?) Are they peaceful?
It is better to be poor and godly than rich and dishonest. Proverbs 16:8 NLT Verse 7 above references an external peace with enemies, this verse references internal peace. When your plans are aligned with Biblical Business Principles, even though your profits are meager, you will enjoy His peace. Do you consider the level of your peace as you plan?
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9 NLT We can plan with God, or we can plan and ask God to bless our plans, or we can plan without thinking about God. Which best describes your planning?
Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Proverbs 21:5 NLT Planning plus hard work lead us to where we all want to go – profitability. Do you check for hasty shortcuts in your planning?
In summation – If you plot evil, you will be lost; but if you plan good, you will be granted unfailing love and faithfulness. Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty! Proverbs 14:22-23 NLT
Bit of Wisdom
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT
