Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Planning from Proverbs 16. When you plan, is the Lord your primary consultant?
This week we will focus on Keeping the Main Thing The Main Thing. Do you consistently have more to do than time to do it? More problems than solutions? More opportunities than resources to seize the opportunity?
To keep the main thing the main thing, you must identify your main thing. What is your main thing?
While the Apostle Paul was focused on carrying out the ministry Christ had given him, the principles he delineates are applicable for Christian’s in business. I once thought all these things were so very important, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own goodness or my ability to obey God’s law, but I trust Christ to save me. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. As a result, I can really know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I can learn what it means to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that, somehow, I can experience the resurrection from the dead! I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection! But I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be. No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven. I hope all of you who are mature Christians will agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. But we must be sure to obey the truth we have learned already. Philippians 3:7-16 NLT
What is your main thing in your business? A defined central purpose is crucial when establishing priorities. Having established priorities makes it easier to say yes to opportunities inline with your purpose, and no to anything that is not inline. What is your business main thing? Do you have more than one main thing? If yes, do they complement each other?
PURPOSE > PRIORITIES > PROJECTS Or, do you work this backwards – Projects > Priorities > Projects?
Do you start with your purpose, then establish priorities before beginning projects? Or, do you work on your projects, then get forced into deciding priorities, and then find your purpose is far from your practice?
You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail. Proverbs 19:21 NLT Do your business purposes align with God’s purposes?
Are you passionate about your business Main Things?
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:28-29 NLT How does this purpose align with your business main things?
Bit of Wisdom
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness. John 10:10 NLT
