Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Purpose of Business and sowing seed. How are you doing at sowing seed?

Business By The Book teaches four purposes: 1. To glorify God. 2. To make a profit. 3. To support the work of Christ. 4. To spiritually impact our sphere of influence. How are you doing with each of these purposes?

This week we’ll continue focusing on spiritually impacting our sphere of influence – with light.

Jesus taught – You are the light of the world — like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16

We are light because Christ who is light is in us. Light penetrates darkness. We are to let it shine. What do you radiate? Justice? Mercy? Hope?

Then Jesus said, “In the same way let your good deeds shine for all to see.” It’s easy to do good deeds when it’s convenient and profitable. Do you do good deeds when it might be costly or is inconvenient? What are some good deed opportunities in your typical business day?

Last week we discussed words, this week deeds – which should come first actions or words?

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. 1 Peter 3:15 NLT Peter teaches our actions will reflect our worship, and then when people notice our difference, we need to be ready to explain it. Do people see enough difference in your actions that they ask why you did what you did?

But you must do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak evil against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. 1 Peter 3:16 NLT

We are to be living proof both personally and as a company. Are people asking you to explain yourself? Are your explanations based on the standards of God’s Word? Do your explanations sow seed?
