Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Problem Solving. As you work to solve business problems, do you look beyond the functional issues to the character issues?

Since we just celebrated Labor Day, this week we will focus on Laboring vs Working. Are you laboring in your business or are you working in your business?

At first glance this might seem like semantics. As Christian business people we should be working as guided by our Lord, not laboring without the wisdom and leading of the Lord as the world does. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT Are these verses operative in your business life? Do you really trust with all your heart?

The passage goes on to instruct Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality. Proverbs 3:7-8 NLT Stop and meditate for a moment on what this really says. I don’t know about you, but my ideas always seem good – at least at first! Why is it as you fear the Lord, turning your back on evil becomes easier? Do you have any evil you need to repent about? (Repentance is admitting the violation of God’s standard, AND turning and going the other way, which results in turning your back on evil.) Why does this passage suddenly shift to health and vitality? Does laboring as the world does drain you?

Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land (or company) produces. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine. Proverbs 3:9-10 NLT What a wonderful, conditional promise! Does God really care that much about the success of our businesses? In what ways are you honoring our Lord through your business? How can you practically honor God with the best part of your company’s products / services? Is there any change God is prompting you to make to be more honoring?

Are you laboring or working in your business?

Bit of Wisdom
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
