Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last time we focused on Work or Wait. How do you know when to role up your sleeves and get to work, and when to wait on the Lord?

This week we will focus on Who Gets the Glory. When things go well in your business, who gets the glory?

If you pray, Lord please help me make my presentation to this customer, who will get the credit if He answers your prayer? When you pray asking God to help you with any business problem, ask yourself, “If He answers my request, who will get the glory?” How do you deflect the credit you receive to God?

Psalm 115 (NLT) gives good advice for giving God the glory (Comments in parentheses) –
1 Not to us, O LORD, but to you goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. (Are you experiencing God’s faithfulness in business?)

2 Why let the nations say, “Where is their God?” (God wants people to see His activity through His people. Does this include business?)

3 For our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes. (We serve a sovereign God.)

4 Their idols are merely things of silver and gold, shaped by human hands. (Are you following human principles or God’s principles?)

5-7 They cannot talk, though they have mouths, or see, though they have eyes! They cannot hear with their ears, or smell with their noses, or feel with their hands, or walk with their feet, or utter sounds with their throats! (Do you have any man made idols in your business practices?)

8 And those who make them are just like them, as are all who trust in them. (Why do we become like what we focus on?)

9 O Israel, trust the LORD! He is your helper; he is your shield. (Do we as a Nation practice the motto on our coins – In God We Trust?)

10 O priests of Aaron, trust the LORD! He is your helper; he is your shield. (How is trust in the Lord connected with He is our helper?)

11 All you who fear the LORD, trust the LORD! He is your helper; he is your shield. (Is the Lord your helper, AND your shield?)

12-18 The LORD remembers us, and he will surely bless us. He will bless the people of Israel and the family of Aaron, the priests. He will bless those who fear the LORD, both great and small. May the LORD richly bless both you and your children. May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth. The heavens belong to the LORD, but he has given the earth to all humanity. The dead cannot sing praises to the LORD, for they have gone into the silence of the grave. But we can praise the LORD both now and forever! Praise the LORD! (Are you praising our Lord as He blesses you?

Personal Testimony – Some years ago I had a customer’s malfunctioning centrifugal chiller that was critical to their operations. We had our best technician on the job, but he was stumped. I went to the jobsite to lend a hand. I was too was soon stumped. In frustration I got up and walked around the chiller and prayed, “Lord, You made the people who made this big green monster. You made the molecules it is made of. Please give me insight on how to fix it!” Within ½ hour we had it fixed! I knew God gave me the insight to know what to do, however, at that time I was unaware as to how to share with our technician my prayer and God’s answer. I left him and others credit me. Today, I would simply state what happened, i.e. when I got up and walked around the chiller, I was praying for God to give me insight. Then I would ask, “Do you think He did?” We reflect credit by simply telling what happened in practical terms.

Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods! For who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who knows enough to be his counselor? And who could ever give him so much that he would have to pay it back? For everything comes from him; everything exists by his power and is intended for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Amen. Romans 11:33-36 NLT

Have you learned how to give God the glory? As you pray for God’s help, pray also for how you can share His activity as He answers your prayers.

Bit of Wisdom
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
