Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on G2G (Glory to God). Is God being glorified through your business?

This week we will focus on profit. When I was in business I had a button on my brief case that simply said, “Profit is not a four letter word!” It did initiate conversations from time to time. How do you view profit?

The difference between non-profit organizations and for profit organizations is simply profit organizations are supposed to have some money remaining after all the expenses are paid, where non-profits are designed to break even. Profits are needed to give investors a return on investment, and fund future growth so the company can provide more products / services, hire more employees, and glorify God more. Do your profits glorify God?

Look here, you people who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” James 4:13 NLT Does your business planning include profit planning?

How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. James 4:14 NLT In planning, how can you know what the future holds?

What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you will be boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:15-17 NLT Does this passage say it is wrong to plan? Or, does it say we should begin our planning by stating “Lord, if You want we will…”?

Is the Lord Lord of your profits? Is God being glorified by your profits?
