Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Business Bondage. To what degree are you in business bondage?

This week we will focus on Honesty: Human or God Trusting. Are you an honest person? How do you measure honesty in business?

Is your honesty in business human honesty or God trusting honesty? Human honesty does the right thing based on human thinking unless ____ (fill in the blank). It’s all about human logic.

God trusting honesty goes beyond human honesty of logically doing the right thing to doing what Biblical Business Principles require, trusting God with the outcome – even if it logically looks like it is doomed to fail. God trusting honesty necessitates knowing what God wants. We need to have confidence we’re in God’s will before taking action. Searching God’s Word, prayer and wise Christian counsel are keys. Not the “let go and let God” philosophy. Is your honesty in business human honesty or God trusting honesty?

God is not a man, that he should lie. He is not a human, that he should change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19 NLT

In Genesis chapters 29 – 31 we read the story of Jacob and Laben. Two men trying to out wit each other using human honesty. But God trusting honesty is also in play. Deception in business is always a problem. If one’s business motives are to make money instead of adding value, falling into the trap of logical human honesty is inevitable. Human honesty degenerates into relative honesty – it’s not hurting anyone, you’re not guilty until you’re caught, etc.

Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and everyone else. Acts 24:16 NLT This is an excellent verse to memorize. Do you maintain a clear conscience before God and man in your business? Is your honesty God trusting honesty?

Bit of Wisdom
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NLT
