Forums Focus: A weekly Blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on the Golden Rule. How will you remind yourself to consider the Golden Rule before making final business decisions?
This week we will focus on Financial Fitness in Business. The first issue in Financial Fitness in Business is to get it straight as to who the owner is and who the manager is! Even if legal documents indicate you own 100% of the business, who is the real owner?
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Psalm 24:1-2 NLT Why is it important to begin with God owns it all, including businesses? What happens when we forget He owns it and we act as if we own it? (Thoughts oft repeated become words, words oft repeated become deeds, deeds oft repeated become habits, and habits become our destiny. Our core values feed our attitudes, and our attitudes feed our actions.)
Since God owns it all, what is our role?
Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 NLT Many translations including the ESV use the word steward – Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. Faithful Manager – Trustworthy Steward! Manager stewards don’t own it; but faithful trustworthy manager stewards take responsibility as if they did while deflecting credit and praise to the true owner.
Finally, faithful and trustworthy manager stewards operate following the policies of the owner. Over the next several weeks we will examine some of The Owner’s Financial Fitness in Business policies.
Do you recognize God owns your business? How do you remind yourself in the midst of a busy business day? Are you a faithful steward?
Bit of Wisdom
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 NLT
