Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Honoring God. Do you publically state you honor God through your business?

This week we will focus on Purpose. What is the purpose of your business?

Do you have a written purpose / mission statement for your company? For your personal life? Do your company and personal statements align? If you have never invested the time to write them out the advantages are: You think through why you exist; you think through what is really important; you reflect on your thoughts over time; as you plan you have a bigger purpose to guide your planning; and you can share your purpose(s) with others. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. 1 Corinthians 9:26 NLT

More important than your personal and business purposes aligning with each other is do they align with God’s purposes? And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose in this is that people should fear him. Ecclesiastes 3:14 NLT Is your big purpose to honor God? You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail. Proverbs 19:21 NLT

God’s purposes for man can be broken down into two major categories: Universal Purpose and Unique Purpose. Universal Purpose is God’s purpose for mankind. We might boil that down to love God, love your neighbor as yourself, which includes know Christ and make Him known. His purpose in all of this was that the nations should seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him — though he is not far from any one of us. Acts 17:27 NLT

Unique Purpose is God’s individualized purpose for you, for your company. We each have unique abilities, gifts, talents, temperaments, education, experiences, and spheres of influence. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans *:28 NLT

Having a written purpose / mission statement enhances teamwork. A team is defined as two or more people interacting together on a common cause. Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one heart and purpose. Philippians 2:2 NLT Are the people in your company a team? How about your family?

Should you invest some time this week focusing on your purpose / mission?
