Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on the Is Be / Can Be Ratio. How big is your gap?

This week we will focus on Biblical Standards for Business (Honesty). Do you have an honesty standard?

You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another. Leviticus 19:11 ESV
I’m confident none of us would steal by robbing a bank! But is stealing anytime we take something that doesn’t belong to us?
Next, we’re not to deal falsely. Are your claims for your products / services accurate?
Finally, we’re not to lie. How do you define a lie? Are “white lies” lies?
Note the progression in this verse – stealing > dealing falsely > lying.

Cling tightly to your faith in Christ, and always keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. 1 Timothy 1:19 ESV
How can you hold on to a good conscience? By treasuring your faith in Christ above all and doing what you know is right every time. Every time you deliberately ignore your conscience, you harden your heart, then your capacity to tell right from wrong diminishes. As you walk with God, he will speak to you through your conscience, letting you know the difference between right and wrong. Be sure to act on those inner tugs so that you do what is right keeping your conscience clear.

So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man. Acts 24:16 ESV You might fool your fellow man, but God knows! Do you have a clear conscience with respect to honesty before God and man? Can you trust God with the outcome when being honest looks like it will hurt you?

Over the next several weeks we will continue exploring Biblical Standards for Business.

Bit of Wisdom
Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence. 1 John 3:21 NLT
