Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Relying on God’s Resources (His Peace). Do you experience and rely on God’s resource of peace in your business?
This week we will focus on Relying on God’s Resources (His Provision). How much do you rely on God’s provision? Most of us have learned that the right answer is 100%; but, most of us also learned “God helps those who help themselves”.
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NLT Do you trust the God who created it all and owns it all to provide your needs?
Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper and be satisfied. Proverbs 13:4 NLT Do you work hard giving 100%?
Even while we were with you, we gave you this rule: “Whoever does not work should not eat.” Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and wasting time meddling in other people’s business. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we appeal to such people — no, we command them: Settle down and get to work. Earn your own living. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 NLT Why would God’s Word include this rule / command?
So which is it? Rely on God to provide our need or get to work and earn your own living? As is often the case with Biblical continuums, the answer is not somewhere in the middle; rather both ends are true! One friend advises, “Pray like it all depends on God, work like it all depends on you!” Do you operate your business believing God provides your need, and believing hard work leads to prosperity and satisfaction?
When we believe God provides all our need, it makes it much easier to be a giver. See Bit of Wisdom below.
Bit of Wisdom
Give what you have to anyone who asks you for it; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do for others as you would like them to do for you. “Do you think you deserve credit merely for loving those who love you? Even the sinners do that! And if you do good only to those who do good to you, is that so wonderful? Even sinners do that much! And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, what good is that? Even sinners will lend to their own kind for a full return. “Love your enemies! Do good to them! Lend to them! And don’t be concerned that they might not repay. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to the unthankful and to those who are wicked. Luke 6:30-35 NLT Note: Fully following this teaching is only possible when we truly rely on God’s provision.
