CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Decision Making: 3 Hinges. Do you remember the 3 Hinges? Does your office door have 3 hinges to remind you: What does the Bible say? What are inner impulses saying? What are outer circumstances revealing?
This week we will focus on the Decision Switch. When you have a critical decision to make, and you’re just not sure which way to go, applying the Decision Switch can help.
Gideon used the fleece. Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised, prove it to me in this way. I will put some wool on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.” And it happened just that way. When Gideon got up the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water. Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.” So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew. Judges 6:36-40 NLT Would you be satisfied with just one sign – wet fleece, dry ground?
As we face a critical decision, we often say should I _____ (fill in the blank). Perhaps you’ve already applied the 3 Hinge formula and each was a go, but this decision is so critical with so many consequences, you’re just not sure. The Decision Switch can help. One of the steps in the decision making process is making the decision, throwing the switch. But often once the decision is made there is no turning back. The Decision Switch is simply throwing the switch, BUT TAKING NO ACTION. Then give yourself some time to see how it fits and feels, and time for God to veto your decision. You’re simply moving from should I do ____ to I will do ____ unless God stops it. Again, the Decision Switch gives God time to veto your decision. The key is throw the switch, BUT TAKE NO ACTION for some period of time.
Do you have a critical decision you’re facing? Try applying the 3 Hinges and the Decision Switch.
Bit of Wisdom
Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this evil judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end, so don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who plead with him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? Luke 18:6-7 NLT
