CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principles – Last week we focused on Dealing Falsely. Are you able to be 100% truthful in your business dealings because you trust and fully rely on God?

This week we will focus on Teaming. Does it matter who you team up with in business?

Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can goodness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14 NLT Are all unbelievers wicked? Is there a difference between partnering with another company on a project and partnering with someone who is a co-owner? Many versions including KJV and ESV translate Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers… A team of oxen need to be similar in size and temperament when they are yoked together so each will pull his share.

Verse 14 above contrasts goodness with wickedness, light with darkness. Verse 15 contrasts Christ and the Devil. What harmony can there be between Christ and the Devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 2 Corinthians 6:15 NLT

Verses 16-18 personalizes it. And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from them and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 NLT Why did the Apostle Paul make such a big deal about teaming? Is it because of differing values which can lead to differing operating procedures? In the long term when teaming with unbelievers, whose values typically get compromised, the believer’s or the unbeliever’s?

Is this passage saying we Christians should circle the wagons and only do business with Christians? How can we be salt and light in the world if we withdraw? The issue is “deeper” teaming where Biblical values will be compromised resulting in heavier burdens. Have you experienced values conflicts when teaming with unbelievers? Note: While we Christians are forgiven for our past, present and future sins; God’s guidance in the Bible sometimes seems unreal but is for our good.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT The bottom line on being yoked – Jesus yoke fits perfectly and the load is light! Are you already unequally yoked? Next week we will explore Biblical teaching on dealing with existing unequal yokes.

Bit of Wisdom
Don’t let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ. For in Christ the fullness of God lives in a human body, and you are complete through your union with Christ. He is the Lord over every ruler and authority in the universe. Colossians 2:8-10 NLT
