CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principles – Last time we focused on a Meaningful Christmas. His ever expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will guarantee this! Isaiah 9:7 NLT Is this truth the cornerstone of your long term plans?
This week we will focus on a New Year Challenge. Most of us have long term plans, and most of us have made New Year’s resolutions. What has your experience been in carrying out your New Year’s resolutions? Many of us have forgotten our New year’s resolutions in a few months, or because they don’t seem to work we stopped making them. What’s the difference between long term plans and New Year’s resolutions?
Go ahead and write down some New Year’s resolutions. Then discover 1 Word for 2014 using the following simple three step approach.
1. Get alone with God and really connect with Him. De-clutter and ask God to search your heart. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. Psalm 139:23 NLT
2. Ask God, “What do you want to do in me and through me in 2014?” Then really listen. Write the word or words down. If it is words, pray over them asking God for 1 Word. Don’t pick a good word, receive a God-word. This process will require an investment of time. But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! John 15:7 NLT
3. Once you discover the 1 Word that is meant for you, keep your 1 Word front and center. Tell your accountability partner(s) and your family your word for the year. Post it where you see it, write it in your journal, do whatever it takes to keep it in focus and fresh. The purpose of 1 Word is to keep you focused and centered on what God has revealed you are to focus on in 2014. So Jesus told them, “I’m not teaching my own ideas, but those of God who sent me. Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own. Those who present their own ideas are looking for praise for themselves, but those who seek to honor the one who sent them are good and genuine. John 7:16-18 NLT After you know your 1 Word, find a Bible verse that communicates one aspect of your 1 Word, memorize it and make it your verse for 2014.
Praying this year will be a fruitful year for you as the Lord uses the 1 Word He gave you to bring glory to Himself in your business and in your personal life!
Bit of Wisdom
For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. Hebrews 4:12 NLT
