CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Glorifying God. How is God being glorifying through your business?
This week we will focus on Receiving Rebukes. How do you respond to rebukes?
A single rebuke does more for a person of understanding than a hundred lashes on the back of a fool. Proverbs 17:10 NLT Proverbs often gives wide contrasts like a single rebuke to 100 lashes. How well do you receive rebukes? Are you sufficiently open so people feel free to tell you the truth?
My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Your anger can never make things right in God’s sight. James 1:19-20 NLT Are you quick to listen? Slow to speak? (Or do you cut people off before they can rebuke you?) Does a rebuke make you angry?
A fool gives full vent to anger, but a wise person quietly holds it back. Proverbs 29:11 NLT Does your anger sometimes get the most of you in your business day? (Rebukes come in many forms, for example a contract not accepted or cancelled.)
It is better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool! Ecclesiastes 7:5 NLT Do you have some wise people around you who will tell you the truth?
The next time you’re rebuked, try the following: Humbly receive it and ask the person what he or she thinks you could have done differently; then take it to the Lord in prayer. Then, do as the Lord leads.
An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Proverbs 27:5 NLT
Bit of Wisdom
Mockers don’t love those who rebuke them, so they stay away from the wise. Proverbs 15:12 NLT
