CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principle
Last time we focused on Biblical Perspective on Debt. What is your perspective on debt?

This week we will focus on Lending. To have debt, there must be a lender! Unless you’re in banking, most of us don’t think we’re lenders. But, do you have accounts receivables? Have you loaned money personally?

Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow. Matthew 5:42 NLT Jesus takes it a step further in Luke 6:35a – Love your enemies! Do good to them! Lend to them! And don’t be concerned that they might not repay. (NLT) Why would Jesus take it to this extreme? Isn’t this enabling? Luke 6:35b gives us the answer to Jesus’s radical teaching – Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to the unthankful and to those who are wicked. (NLT) Do you trust God’s provision to this level?

When you lend there is debt for the person receiving the loan, debt enslaves (Proverbs 22:7), and debt can be used to proceed where God is not leading. How do you know when to freely lend and when to not lend so you don’t enable? If you need wisdom — if you want to know what God wants you to do — ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6 NLT Only God can give you the wisdom you need to make these difficult decisions.

Bit of Wisdom
All goes well for those who are generous, who lend freely and conduct their business fairly. Psalm 112:5 NLT
