CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Helping the Poor. Are you helping the poor through your business as the Bible instructs?
This week we will focus on What’s a Good Deal? Do people get a good deal when they buy from your company?
The buyer haggles over the price, saying, “It’s worthless,” then brags about getting a bargain! Proverbs 20:14 NLT Are you caught in the trap of adjusting your prices based on what the customer is willing to pay? I remember adjusting a haggler’s price when I first got in the service business and still ended up losing the customer. I didn’t understand the following principle:
The LORD despises double standards; he is not pleased by dishonest scales. Proverbs 20:23 NLT While adjusting the price may not be a dishonest scale (which is cheating), it is a double standard if those who haggle get a better price than those who don’t.
So, what’s the answer in pricing? Charge what you need to make a fair profit and provide quality work. If your prices are consistently higher than your competitors, examine why. Work for the customers who value your work. Verse 24 provides sound advice for the Christian in business – How can we understand the road we travel? It is the LORD who directs our steps. Proverbs 20:24 NLT As we do business God’s way, we may not always understand, but He promises to direct our steps and provide.
Bit of Wisdom
The LORD despises double standards of every kind. Proverbs 20:10 NLT
