CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Work. God assigned Adam work before the Fall – tend and care for the Garden, name the animals, etc. Why did God assign work? Does your work give you fulfillment?
This week we will focus on Work After The Fall. What is the difference Adam experienced with work before and after the Fall?
And to Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate the fruit I told you not to eat, I have placed a curse on the ground. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. All your life you will sweat to produce food, until your dying day. Then you will return to the ground from which you came. For you were made from dust, and to the dust you will return.” Genesis 3:17-19 NLT Did God change the conditions for work as punishment or as a therapy? Have you, after a hard day’s work, felt good?
Even while we were with you, we gave you this rule: “Whoever does not work should not eat.” Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and wasting time meddling in other people’s business. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we appeal to such people — no, we command them: Settle down and get to work. Earn your own living. And I say to the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 NLT How does this New Testament passage relate to the Genesis 3 passage?
Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. Romans 12:11 NLT Does your work draw you closer to the Lord?
Bit of Wisdom
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your spiritual strength comes from God’s special favor, not from ceremonial rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them. Hebrews 13:8-9 NLT
