Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last time we focused on Working With Purpose – Employee Pay. One of the purposes of a company is to pay employees just compensation. Are your employees receiving just compensation?
This week we will again focus on Working With Purpose – Employee Pay II. After the last Forums Focus a business owner emailed me with the following comment. “Reading this and then chewing on my thoughts regarding the questions creates more questions than answers for me. The regulatory environment and the pressure of the culture can create sharp contrasts…” The questions included: Are your employees receiving just compensation? Do they think so? How do you determine if you’re paying a just wage? I thought his questions might be questions others have and it leads to a bigger issue – doing business by The Book in a very secular society.
Matthew 6:31–34 NLT states – So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. The King James version says Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Is this passage a reality in your life? Are you seeking first His Kingdom and righteousness? Are you experiencing His provision? In many families, provision comes through the employer. Do you sense God is provisioning families through you? If He is, then He has to provision you, so you can provision them! This passage also confirms to us that non-christians are deeply concerned and worry about their needs. Or is it that they are concerned about their desires beyond their needs? How can you help people identify desires that are not needs? Pray asking God if you should offer a course in finances for employees using biblically based material from Crown Ministries, Ron Blue & Company, or some other biblically based course.
The pressure of the culture can shape us unless we let God transform us. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is. Romans 12:2 NLT It is only as we let God transform us that we have any hope of knowing and doing the good, pleasing and perfect will of God. The ultimate help we provide others is encouraging them to let God transform them which begins when Christ comes in.
However, we must obey the government even when we don’t like the regulations! Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God. Romans 13:1 NLT
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again — rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 NLT When the customs of this world contrast with Biblical Business Principles, it is only as we consult with God (prayer) that we can possibly come to correct answers. How’s your prayer time? Are you talking with God about all your business decisions? Since God owns your business, and He is just a prayer away…
