Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Working with Purpose – Safe Working Conditions. Does your safety program show employees you care about them?
This week we will focus on Working with Purpose – Honor Employees Families. Does your company honor employees’ families in tangible, ongoing, visible ways? (Some of you don’t have employees; however we are all involved in workplaces, and can honor employees’ families.)
“But God’s plan was seen from the beginning of creation, for ‘He made them male and female.’ ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one let no one separate them, for God has joined them together.” Later, when he was alone with his disciples in the house, they brought up the subject again. He told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and remarries, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:6-12 NLT God ordained family. What does your business do to support God’s primary institution of the family? Have you investigated opportunities that organizations like Family Life and Focus on the Family offer?
One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch them and bless them, but the disciples told them not to bother him. But when Jesus saw what was happening, he was very displeased with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you, anyone who doesn’t have their kind of faith will never get into the Kingdom of God.” Then he took the children into his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16 NLT Jesus was displeased with his disciples because they were putting their ministry business above family. What does your company do to support employees’ families and their children?
In Ephesians and Colossians the pattern is God, Family (spouse then children), Vocation and Ministry. These are great priorities to use to check your personal and business life. If you have not adopted these priorities, invest some time in Colossians asking God to reveal His priorities to you.
What about company profits? When employees are happy at home, they are more productive at work!
Bit of Wisdom
You slave owners (employers) must be just and fair to your slaves (employees). Remember that you also have a Master (owner) — in heaven. Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4: 1-2 NLT
