CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Working with Purpose – Honor Employees Families. How does your company honor employees’ families?
This week we will focus on Working with Purpose – Safeguard God’s Creation. What steps does your company take to safeguard God’s creation? How do you define the difference between using the earth’s resources and abusing the earth’s resources?
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Psalm 24:1-2 NLT
The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and care for it. Genesis 2:15 NLT
How do the facts that the earth is the Lord’s and He instructed the first man to tend and care for it relate to safeguarding God’s creation today?
Is it not enough for you to keep the best of the pastures for yourselves? Must you also trample down the rest? Is it not enough for you to take the best water for yourselves? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet? All that is left for my flock to eat is what you have trampled down. All they have to drink is water that you have fouled.” Ezekiel 34:18-19 NLT
How does greed play into safeguarding God’s creation?
We are to enjoy but not destroy God’s creation. We hear a lot today from different camps on environment issues including global warming, depleting resources, etc. Scientific facts sometimes get altered by opinions. Most of us can’t change the big picture, but we can make changes in that which we’re stewards over. The questions to consider today are: Is my business helping people enjoy God’s creation or are we contributing to destroying creation? Are we efficient or are we wasteful? Are we good stewards of God’s creation? If you really want to know how effectively you’re safeguarding God’s creation, pray and ASK THE OWNER!
Take a few minutes sometime this weekend and meditate on the following:
O LORD, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and nursing infants to give you praise. They silence your enemies who were seeking revenge. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers — the moon and the stars you have set in place — what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us? For you made us only a little lower than God, and you crowned us with glory and honor. You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things — the sheep and the cattle and all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. O LORD, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth! Psalm 8 NLT
Bit of Wisdom
Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 NLT
