CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Working with Purpose – Comply with All Applicable Laws. Does your company complying with all applicable laws?
This week we will focus on Working with Purpose – Be Honest With All. Honesty is a decreasing virtue in our country as absolutes are replaced with relativity. Many people today don’t think their guilty until they get caught. How honest are you in your business dealings? With customers? Employees? Vendors?
In Leviticus 19:11 NLT God instructed “Do not steal.” “Do not cheat one another.” “Do not lie.” Notice the sequence. The King James translates, Ye shall not steal , neither deal falsely , neither lie one to another. Steal, deal falsely, lie. Can lying lead to dealing falsely? Can dealing falsely lead to stealing? Testimonies of people caught stealing in white collar crimes usually reveal they did not set out to steal. It was a sequence of lying, dealing falsely, then stealing.
Jesus taught – “Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10 NLT Are you honest with the smallest matters?
Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and everyone else. Acts 24:16 NLT God has given us the Holy Spirit and a conscience to guide us. How’s your conscience before God? Before all people?
He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity. Proverbs 2:7 NLT The honest will be rescued from harm, but those who are crooked will be destroyed. Proverbs 28:18 NLT
God promises to protect the honest, although it may require His rescuing! Do you trust God when you’re tempted to stretch the truth in a business deal?
God is not a man, that he should lie. He is not a human, that he should change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19 NLT Do you stand on the promises of God in the midst of business battles?
Bit of Wisdom
Ill-gotten gain has no lasting value, but right living can save your life. Proverbs 10:2 NLT
