CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Working with Purpose – Be Honest With All. Is your honesty standard 100%, or do you have a fudge factor?
This week we will focus on Working with Purpose – Support God’s Kingdom on Earth. Are you supporting God’s Kingdom on Earth both personally and/or through your business?
God has structured His work on Earth using an all voluntary concept; this includes both manpower and resources (including finances). The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. Psalms 24:1 NLT In light of God owning it all, yet using a voluntary concept to support His Kingdom on Earth, what does this say about our God?
You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. 2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT Paul’s letter to the Corinthians follows the volunteer concept with respect to finances. Are you a cheerful giver of your time, talent and treasure?
And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT Since God owns it all, yet uses a volunteer concept, can He be trusted to provide everything you need with plenty left over to share? Are your needs being met (not wants)? Are you sharing your left overs?
Should Christian owned companies follow the same biblical guidelines corporately as those given to individuals? While the Scriptures don’t directly address corporations, principles are principles. Can 2 Corinthians 9:8 above apply to companies?
There are many companies that take serious the teaching of Business By The Book, namely that one of the purposes of a Christian owned business is to fund the work of Christ. Supporting God’s Kingdom on Earth can take many forms such as providing non-profit organizations with needed materials obtained at cost, and providing expertise to help solve problems that would cost the organization funds. Have you asked God how He desires you support His Kingdom on Earth?
Bit of Wisdom
“So don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” Matthew 6:31-33 NLT
