CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.
Biblical Business Principle
The last time we focused on Working with Purpose – Honor People’s Religious Freedom. Do you honor people’s freedom of religion in your company and as you share the Gospel?
This week we will focus on Working with Purpose – Balancing Beauty and Function. To you reflect God’s balancing of beauty and function? Or, do you focus more on one over the other?
And the LORD God planted all sorts of trees in the garden — beautiful trees that produced delicious fruit. At the center of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:9 NLT God is the creator of beauty. Do you take (invest) time to smell the roses?
Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be revered above all gods. The gods of other nations are merely idols, but the LORD made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty are in his dwelling. 1 Chronicles 16:25-27 NLT Do you factor in beauty in the products you produce, work you perform, even the workplace itself?
“Many rulers have ravaged my vineyard, trampling down the vines and turning all its beauty into a barren wilderness.” Jeremiah 12:10 NLT Beauty must be maintained in this fallen world. Are you contributing to making God’s creation more beautiful or are you guilty of reducing its beauty?
Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. Romans 12:4-6a NLT Most business people focus more on function, it’s what we do – produce widgets, fix gadgets, build something! Are you functional in a manner whereas God receives glory? How do you measure your functionality?
Are you balancing beauty and function? If one is weak, what can you do to improve it? What will you do?
Bit of Wisdom
Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and the Master you are serving is Christ. Colossians 3:23-24 NLT
