Biblical Business Principle
Last week we focused on Working with Purpose – Review. Does your work have a higher purpose?

This week we will focus on Profit Planning. As we approach the end of the calendar year, was it a profitable year for your company? (Unless you’re working for a non-profit, the objective is to have more income than expenses!) What does the Bible instruct about planning for profits?

Look here, you people who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you will be boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:13-17 NLT

James doesn’t condemn planning, but he does instruct our plans must begin with “if the Lord wants us to…” Key word is Lord – is this plan what the Lord wants? As you plan for 2015, is what the Lord wants first and foremost? James also makes it clear, if we boast about our plans (make it all about me), it is evil! He then states not doing what we know we should do is sin. Our planning to increase business and make a profit can be in line with God’s will, or it can be evil and sinful.

What actions will you take in 2015 to assure your planning for profit will be in line with God’s will?

Bit of Wisdom
We can gather our thoughts, but the LORD gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives. Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:1-3NLT
