Biblical Business Principle
Last time we focused on Handling Negative Feedback . Do you handle negative feedback in a Christlike manner?
This week we will focus on Freedom. Are you grateful for the freedoms God has given us in America?
Many people take our religious, political, personal and economic freedoms for granted and have no concept or appreciation of the origin of these freedoms.
Now, the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NLT God is the source of our freedom. Do you regularly thank Him for our freedoms?
For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message that God gave to the world at the proper time. 2 Timothy 2:5-6 NLT Christ brings liberty, dignity, value, and freedom. This is why despots and despotic systems, such as fascism, communism, radical Islam, and other tyrannical religious systems, hate the Bible and Christianity. Why? Because it brings freedom.
So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free. John 8:36 NLT How does this freedom relate to business freedom?
The American system of free enterprise began after an initial failed experiment of collectivism / communism by the Pilgrims at Plymouth. The investors in England had underwritten the Pilgrim enterprise. At first the settlers ran a collective, communist-like farming operation. They soon discovered it was inefficient because it didn’t promote individual incentive. The leaders debated and decided that each person should have his own parcel of land, trust his own potential, and assume his own risks. This decision helped establish the American system of free enterprise.
Governor Bradford wrote, “This had very good success, for it made all hands very industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been by any means the Governor or any other could use, and saved him a great deal of trouble, and gave far better content.” He also wrote, “The experience that was had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanity of that conceit of Plato’s and other ancients applauded by some of later times; that the taking away of property and bringing in community into a commonwealth would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God.”
Even while we were with you, we gave you this rule: “Whoever does not work should not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10 NLT Is Paul’s rule harsh or is it for the good of people?
How does free enterprise manifest in your business while demonstrating Christlikeness?
Bit of Wisdom
For you have been called to live in freedom — not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 NLT
