CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principle

Last week we focused on the Lord’s Prayer – And lead us not into temptation.  Do you differentiate between external trials and internal temptations?  How are you doing at responding to both?

This week we will focus on the Lord’s Prayer – But deliver us from evil.  What comes to mind as you pray, but deliver us from evil?  Evil is not hard to find in this world.  The Charleston church shooting is an example of evil.

He died for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. Galatians 1:4 NLT  Jesus rescues us from the evil of this world.  Those who had received Christ and died in the church shooting are present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8)

“I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They are not part of this world any more than I am. Make them pure and holy by teaching them your words of truth. As you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself entirely to you so they also might be entirely yours. I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me because of their testimony.” John 17:15-20 NLT  Jesus prayed that Father God would keep His disciples safe from the evil one.  Most of the disciples met untimely deaths from the world’s perspective.  Jesus also prayed for us who are generations downstream from the disciples.

We have been delivered from evil; we’re just waiting for it to be completed!  We have been justified, saved from the penalty of sin; we are being sanctified, progressively being saved from the power of sin; and when we die we will be glorified, saved from the presence of sin.  But what about the evil we might cause?  Are you praying, “Deliver me from evil that I might cause?”  Are you contributing to the evil of this world in any of your attitudes and / or actions through your business?  In your neighborhood?  In your home?

We’ve cover from the traditional Lord’s Prayer (from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, 1662) –

Our Father, which art in heaven.

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom Come

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive them that trespass against us

And lead us not into temptation

Next week we’ll cover –

For thine is the kingdom,

In the future we’ll cover –

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Bit of Wisdom

Stop loving this evil world and all that it offers you, for when you love the world, you show that you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only the lust for physical pleasure, the lust for everything we see, and pride in our possessions. These are not from the Father. They are from this evil world. And this world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever. 1John 2:15-17 NLT
