CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principle

Last time we focused on the Lord’s Prayer – Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  As you pray about business and personal situations, do you pray for God’s will to be done?

This week we will focus on the Lord’s Prayer – Give us this day our daily bread.  As you pray do you ask God for food for the day?

How many days in the last year were you concerned as to where the day’s bread was coming from?  Most of us have a stock of food in the pantry.  Are you helping the people who are concerned as to where today’s food will come from?  Some verses on daily bread include:

Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and asked God’s blessing on the food. Breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples to give to the people.  …and they picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. Mark6:41,43 NLT  Jesus fed 5000 men that day with 5 loaves, and they had 12 baskets left over!  Can God provide your daily bread?  How about your daily needs in business?

But the disciples discovered they had forgotten to bring any food, so there was only one loaf of bread with them in the boat. As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.” They decided he was saying this because they hadn’t brought any bread. Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he said, “Why are you so worried about having no food? Won’t you ever learn or understand? Are your hearts too hard to take it in?  ‘You have eyes — can’t you see? You have ears — can’t you hear?’ Don’t you remember anything at all? What about the five thousand men I fed with five loaves of bread? How many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?” “Twelve,” they said. “And when I fed the four thousand with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they said. “Don’t you understand even yet?” he asked them. Mark 8:14-21 NLT  What does this passage say to you?  How does it apply to your business?

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God.'” Matthew 4:5 NLT  This was Jesus reply to Satan when he challenged him to turn stones into bread.  Do you feed on the Word daily?  How does feeding on the Word impact your business?

As they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread and asked God’s blessing on it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it and eat it, for this is my body.” Matthew 26:26 NLT  As you eat your daily bread, do you ask God to bless it?  Do you do this in public places as well as at home?  Praying before eating is an opportunity to share a touch of what God means to you.  People respect even a brief bow of the head and a silent prayer in an informal business lunch!  And, as you eat bread, do remember Jesus sacrifice on the cross?

Jesus told them, “This is what God wants you to do: Believe in the one he has sent.” They replied, “You must show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What will you do for us? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! As the Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.'” Jesus said, “I assure you, Moses didn’t give them bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “Give us that bread every day of our lives.” Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again. Those who believe in me will never thirst. John 6:29-35 NLT  Have you gone hungry since you received Jesus Christ?  Has God met your needs in business?

We’ve cover from the traditional Lord’s Prayer (from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, 1662) –

Our Father, which art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom Come

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven

Next week we’ll cover –

And forgive us our trespasses,

In the future we’ll cover – As we forgive them that trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation,  But deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom,

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

Bit of Wisdom

For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you many opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity in you. 2 Corinthians 9:10 NLT
