CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principle

Last time we focused on Financial Principles (Biblical Surety).  Are your policies and procedures on surety aligned with Biblical principles?

This week we will review Financial Principles (Paying Employees).  What does God’s Word say about paying employees?

For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. James 5:4 NLT  Who determines what is fair pay for a day’s work?  The market?  Profit margins?  This verse reminds us God monitors what workers are paid.  How do you know you’re paying properly?

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Proverbs 3:3-4 NLT  Employers want loyalty from employees, but employees want loyalty from employers, too.  How do you remind yourself to be loyal and kind?  Are they written deep in your heart?  Or, has business toughened and calloused your heart?

How can you assure you’re making good employee pay decisions?  Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

Masters (employers), be just and fair to your slaves (employees). Remember that you also have a Master—in heaven. Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:1-2 NLT  To be just and fair, you need wisdom from above, that comes as we devote to prayer with an alert mind and thankful heart.  Is God confirming you are just and fair in your paying employees?  .

Bit of Wisdom

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. James 3:17 NLT
