CBMC Forums Focus: A weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Biblical Business Principle

Last time we focused on Cradle to the Grave.  Businesses start and they end.  As you begin the new year how will having an eternal perspective impact your business planning?

This week we will focus on Reflecting.  Are you seeing the story God is weaving in and through you in your business life?

Reflecting on the past (history (which is His story)  provides perspective to make better decisions for the future, helping us to see His vision and align with it.

Philippians 3:10-16 NLT is a passage that can help us think through learning from history so we don’t repeat it.

10-11 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!  This is the message of the Gospel which supersedes all, the past, the present and the future.  How does this impact your business vision for the future?

12-14 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.  We need to learn from the past, but sometimes we need to forget the past.  How do you differentiate between forgetting and learning from the past?

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.  Ultimately we need God to make it clear as to what we’re to learn from history and how His leading in our lives in the past helps us focus on His vision for the future.

16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.  Historical progress must be maintained.  But, it is very hard to maintain a business pace, we either advance or decline.  Is your business advancing?  An old saying is when you’re green you’re growing; when you’re ripe look out, you’re one step away from rotting – just like a tomato!

Are you seeing the story God is weaving in you through your business (and in your life in general)?  As you review 2015 do you see God’s vision for 2016?

Bit of Wisdom

For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. Philippians 3:18-20 NLT
