Biblical Business Principle

Last week we focused on Overcoming Blind Spots.  What checks do you have in place to avoid problems because of your blind spots?

This week we will focus on Dead Ends: Meaninglessness.  Over the next few weeks we will explore Ecclesiastes as it relates to business.  Does your business life sometimes seem to be a series of dead ends?

These are the words of the Teacher, King David’s son, who ruled in Jerusalem. “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!” What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles. Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content. History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.  Ecclesiastes 1:1-9 NLT  Why did Solomon (often referred to the wisest man who ever lived) come to the conclusion “everything is meaningless”?  Solomon refers to life under the sun.  What about life under The Son?

What is wrong cannot be made right. What is missing cannot be recovered. Ecclesiastes 1:15 NLT  In one sense what has been done wrong can’t be undone, but can it be made right?  Do you work to correct wrongs in your business?

The greater my wisdom, the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases sorrow. Ecclesiastes 1:18 NLT  Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. Proverbs 9:10 NLT  In Ecclesiastes was Solomon missing the foundation for wisdom?  Man without God often finds life meaningless; while man walking with God sees God at work, joins Him there and finds meaning.  Meaninglessness turns to meaning for Ambassadors for Christ.  Is your work meaningful?

Bit of Wisdom

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. Colossians 2:8 NLT
