Biblical Business Brief – Daily Focus

Biblical Business Brief, a weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Last week we focused on Who Leads You?  Are you trusting God or yourself?  To what degree? 50/50? 80/20? 100/0?

This week we will focusing on Daily Focus.  In your business life, do you see good all around you, or do you see nothing but evil?  Is the glass half full or half empty?

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 NLT

Our hearts become filters through which we perceive goodness or evil. The pure (those with Christ in control) learn to see goodness and purity even in this evil world. Corrupt and unbelieving people find evil in everything because their evil hearts taint even the good they see and hear. Will what you choose to fill your mind with affect the way you think and act?

Turn your thoughts to God and his Word, and you will discover more and more goodness, even in this evil world. A mind filled with good has little room for what is evil.  Are you seeing goodness in your daily business life?

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLT

This is a great verse for Daily Focus.  I encourage you to memorize it in your favorite translation, and quote it to yourself daily.

Bit of Wisdom

Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. Proverbs 4:24-27

Biblical Business Brief – Who Leads You?

Biblical Business Brief, a weekly blog to enlighten, encourage and equip Christian business leaders to lead in business using Biblical Business Principles.

Last week we focused on Planning.  Are your plans coming to fruition and leading you where you need to go in your business?

This week we will focusing on Who Leads You?  Are you the boss, or do you work for others and have a human boss?  As a Christian we all have a boss (leader) we report to, Our Lord.

As leaders, we must trust God more than ourselves. In the daily rush of business, it is easy to trust in ourselves rather than trusting in the Lord.

Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Psalm 37:3 NLT

How do you check yourself to discern when your trusting yourself more than God?

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4 NLT

Does this mean He will give me what I want, or is it that He will plant His desires in my heart?

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. Psalm 37:5 NLT

How do you commit your business issues to the Lord?  How much time are you investing in prayer?

He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Psalm 37:6 NLT

Have you experienced God illuminating your business (and you) when you’re trusting, delighting, and committing everything to Him?

Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7 NLT

How often do you invest time in simply sitting in the Lord’s presence?  Have you discovered this investment yields dividends?  Does the amount you’re fretting correspond to the amount of time you’re investing in His presence?

Bit of Wisdom

Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Psalm 37:1-2 NLT

Carroll County Christian Men’s Prayer Breakfast NEWSLETTER

A message from the Chairman:
Summer is finally here and so many of you will be taking vacations with family and friends. If you are like me, you will have planned well in advance for your summer vacation. Marked it on your calendar, purchased tickets or reserved hotel rooms, and notified all your family and friends of the date. I even have my wife plan meals and any activities that we will do while on the week vacation. I have a trip planned in September which will include 2 of my sons and their wives and children (my grandchildren). I have also invited a great couple to join us on our trip as well. Vacations are a great time to unwind and truly enjoy God’s creation.

Well, the Carroll County Christian Men’s Prayer Breakfast (CCCMPB) Steering committee has been planning for our annual Prayer Breakfast since last October. We prayed about a speaker and special music, we planned the event, we set the date, found a location, and decided on our activities. Just like a vacation. Well, this year’s 21st Annual Prayer Breakfast is sure to be an inspiration. Our guest speaker, Tom Joyce, served in the military as a Top Gun Pilot. Remember the movie “Top Gun” with Tom Cruise, well our speaker was one of the pilots that flew the planes filmed in the scenes of the movie. (You didn’t really think the Tom Cruise flew the plane did you?) He served in combat and then was in his office at the Pentagon on 9/11. I can’t wait to hear that powerful testimony of faith and courage.

Since we have done the planning, set the date, and this is our annual “vacation” of sorts, we are inviting you to bring your fathers, sons, friends and co-workers out to our annual men’s prayer breakfast. To give you an idea of what the morning will be like, we typically open with a prayer for the event and the food. We then open the buffet breakfast for all to enjoy. During breakfast, we have someone perform a few songs for you.

This year, we have the honor of having the McDaniel Gospel Choir to come and sing for us. After breakfast, we have a time of prayer where we focus on specific areas like our country, state, county, schools, family and so on. Wouldn’t be called a prayer breakfast if we didn’t pray, now would it?

Once the main speaker is announced, just sit back and be encouraged. Towards the end of the event, you will see a few steering committee members speak briefly. One will provide you with instructions to fill out the response cards that are on your table and along with a special prayer for the love offering being collected. Wait! Is it mandatory to give? No. But let me share with you what the love offering goes toward. First, we help use that to offset the cost of the tickets. You see, during our ticket sales, we do not charge for any students or pastors. Second, we typically provide the speaker with an honorarium. Okay, back to the events. We will pass baskets down the tables to collect the love offerings and the response cards. Then we will have a final steering committee member close us in prayer.

Now, to address the 800 pound gorilla in the room. What time will it end? So we advertise that the event will go from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Some of you will hold us to that and exactly at 10:00 you will quietly get up and move to the exit. We value your time and understand that you have other commitments. But since each speaker is different, we don’t want to limit their message or the moving of the Holy Spirit in any way. If we run a little late, it just means we are extending our vacation and we hope you will relax and enjoy the bonus time we are offering you. If you must leave, we understand and pray that you are leaving with encouragement and blessing from the event. Usually when it is all over, our speaker will hang around and greet you if you want to stop and talk. Once the event is over, guess what? We start the planning for the next vacation (prayer breakfast) and our time of prayer and planning begins all over again.

We look forward to seeing you all at the prayer breakfast. Oh yea. If any of you are thinking, prayer is important and I would like to be a part of the steering committee, please feel free to reach out to me. (If you are interested and want more information about being a part of this committee, contact Don Klapka at 410-259-8951.)

Enjoy your summer, have a great vacation and we look forward to a great prayer breakfast with each of you.
In his service,
Don Klapka

About the steering committee: Many men are uncertain about what the committee members do and what their purpose is. Here is a little insight into why we exist.

Mission statement
For men to come together for breakfast to focus on the need for the power and unity of Christ in our lives without regard to denomination or church affiliation as “Brothers in Christ”.
Goals and Objectives
The goals and objectives of the CCCMPB Steering Committee are:

Encourage Prayer in the community
a. Plan for an annual prayer breakfast
b. Coordinate with local churches for participation in annual prayer breakfast
c. Model prayer amongst the members of the committee

Support men locally
a. Support local men’s organizations with financial donations
b. Encourage men to get connected with a local church

Scriptures that lead our ministry: 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”,
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another,” and
1 Chronicles 4:10: – Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
